This consolidation and acquisition activity has contributed to growth in the number of NBFCs with an asset base in excess of Rs. 100 crore. The recent global financial crisis has however highlighted the importance of widening the focus of NBFC regulations to take particular account of risks arising from regulatory gaps, from arbitrage opportunities and from the inter-connectedness of various activities and entities comprising the financial system. The regulatory regime for NBFCs is lighter and different in many respects from that for the banks. There is increase in bank credit to NBFCs over recent years means that the possibility of risks being transferred from the more lightly regulated NBFC sector to the banking sector in India.RBI has made many changes from time to time for the strict control of NBFCs.
