In 2011, the state had population of 11.24 crore persons, indicating a decadal growth rate of 16.11 percent. The Population growth rate is varies from district to district. The highest decadal growth rate is observed in the district of thane (35.94%), more than two times (2.24%) average growth rate for the state as whole.
