The main reason for fresh water pollution can be attributed to the discharge of untreated waste, dumping of industrial affluent and run-off from agricultural fields. Polluted water causes problems to health leading to water-borne diseases. Another important problem in the study area is the sea-water intrusion which decreases fresh water recharge.
