Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to examine the competitional anxiety among combative sports, individual sports and team games between male and female athletes. The subjects were 120 male and female students of Kumaun University Nanital (UK). These subjects were selected from various colleges who have represented the Inter collegiate competition in various games and sports. The age ranged between 17-25 years. For the purpose of collection of data sports competition anxiety questionnaire was used. This questionnaire (SCAT) prepared by Rainer Martens. The sports competition anxiety questionnaire had fifteen items out of which five were spurious questions. The ten test items which were taken for scoring purpose were 2,3,5,6,8,9,11,12,14 and 15 the remaining five spurious questions were 1,4,7,10 and 13. Every student had three possible responses i.e “hardly ever”, “sometimes” and “often”. Two way analysis of variance was employed to assess the differences of anxiety level between male and female of individual, team games and combative sports where the results of two way analysis of variance indicated insignificant differences. Since the F-ratio obtained for male and female of individual, team and combative sports and the interaction between them was insignificant post- hoc test of significance was not applied.
